How to Honeymoon

Looking to take a break from the – potentially stressful – wedding planning? Let’s talk honeymoons!

Whether you’re a self-proclaimed world traveler or have never stepped foot out of your hometown, planning the honeymoon should be an item on the to-do list that doesn’t cause you too much stress. Sure, planning trips may not always be the easiest thing in the world, but honeymoons are getaways specifically for celebrating you and the new hubby or wifey. This trip should be exciting, relaxing, and most importantly, something that you and your partner want to do. There’s no right or wrong way to honeymoon so, let’s get planning!

Tip #1 – plan this getaway around what YOU want to do.

There’s nothing wrong with asking friends and family for advice or suggestions on what you should do and where you should go on this special trip but, don’t forget, this is about you. So what if all your friends have traveled to remote, all-inclusive resorts or have taken a two-week-long cruise, if you want to go visit relatives in Idaho or go fishing off the coast of Maine, DO IT! Bottom line, don’t let anyone tell you what you should or shouldn’t do. Grab your spouse and go do it. I guarantee you won’t regret it.

Tip #2 – start planning early.

Once you have narrowed it down to where you want to go, start planning early. You might be surprised to find a deal you can’t pass up or you, sadly, might realize this trip is going to blow your budget. By planning early, you’ll start to get a feel for when the best time to travel to your destination is. Remember, honeymoons don’t have to take place the day or week after your wedding! If you find an amazing deal for six months later, book it! If anything, it’ll be something else to look forward to and another chance to relive all your wedding memories down the road.

Tip #3 – set a budget.

I know, I know. Budgets are a quick way to bring down the mood but, they’re good in the long run! Big trips can be very expensive and, even though I’ve already told you to go where you want to go and do what you want to do, is there any sense in breaking the bank on it? Probably not. Set a budget and find somewhere that excites you both while sticking to it. If your absolute dream vacation doesn’t fit in that budget, make it a goal for your 5 or 10-year anniversary. You never know, maybe you’ll be able to afford it on your 1-year! Who would complain about that?!

Tip #4 – travel agents can be a lifesaver.

Not everyone is confident in planning big trips and that’s okay! If you’d feel better about bringing in an expert to ensure your honeymoon is all you’ve dreamed of, then do it. They don’t call them experts for nothing. By using an agent, you’re sure to end up at the best places and they’ll have insights on excursions and adventures you might not want to miss out on. Don’t feel bad about not planning on your own. It’ll be 100% worth it in the end!

Tip #5 – enjoy it!

Honeymoons aren’t something you get to take all the time. Eat all the food, drink all the wine and do all the things. Be sure to soak up this time with your spouse as you create memories that will last forever.

Hopefully, these tips will help make planning easy and fun. Don’t forget to take a lot of pics along the way! We can’t wait to see and hear all about it!
