Where to Find your Inspiration

Are you newly engaged and struggling to nail down your theme, colors, and look and feel for your big day? Don’t feel bad… it’s really not as easy as one might think.

Where to begin…

For starters, a good old classic Google search might do the trick in starting to get the ball rolling. If you know the season you’re going to be married in, looking for Summer or Winter ideas could be helpful in giving you some ideas on the direction you’d like to go.

Next…

Pinterest. Need I say more? The amount of inspiration you could find here is honestly overwhelming. But, don’t let it scare you away. Do you have a favorite color? Favorite flower? Maybe you already can envision the style of dresses you or your bridesmaids will be wearing. The simplest of searches using these terms could send you down a rabbit hole. My biggest recommendation – start by saving every and any picture you can find that has some sort of element in it that speaks to you.

Once you have a million pictures saved (seriously, don’t worry if you have that many) start looking back through them. I wouldn’t be surprised if you started to see a common theme throughout them all. When doing this, get rid of any that all of a sudden don’t stand out to you. By the time you’re done picking through them, you’ll end up with a nice selection of pictures and ideas that you can start to build your big day around.

Instagram works in much the same way. If Pinterest isn’t doing it for you, search “Wedding” on Instagram and get ready to lose the next 3 hours of your life. The ideas will be endless but don’t let that scare you. Many of them you’ll hate but be sure to save the pictures you love.

Now what…

If you’re still struggling to find ways to make your day special, take a step back from the internet and look around. Maybe you already share a home with your soon-to-be spouse. Is your home decorated in a certain style? Have you used a color palette that you love? These are all things you could incorporate into your wedding and make your own.

Most importantly…

Don’t get lost in the Pinterest and Instagram dream world and make sure your wedding is something that is special to you and your spouse. Who cares if what you decide to do isn’t the hottest trend of the year. At least it’ll be something that you remember forever and will be something special you can look back at in all the years to come. How did you and your fiancé meet? What do the two of you enjoy doing together in your free time? All of these special little details can be the perfect addition to your wedding day and, whether or not it’s on Pinterest, your guests will love seeing how you tied in these special aspects to your day.
