20 Day of Essentials for the Bride-to-Be

You want to do something, but another gift seems over the top. I get it.

Whether you’re the maid of honor or someone else behind the scenes of a wedding day, a gift for the bride (or even the groom) doesn’t have to be extravagant.

Gift giving is my love language so I’m a little bias. A little something special for the bride on her wedding day is far from “over the top.” It’s actually a necessity if you do a wedding day survival kit.  I’ve put together the top 20 things brides need on their wedding day for you, a friend, bridesmaid, maid of honor or mother of the couple to gift the bride to be.

1.      Gum/Mints/Mouthwash: choose one or go for all three, but fresh breath on a wedding day is crucial.

2.      Floss: the floss picks are handy and can easily be tossed in a clutch.

3.      Bobby Pins: be sure to throw in some of two colors so this kit can be used by the whole bridal party – blondies and dark haired girlies will appreciate you.

4.      Hairspray: no fly aways…please.

5.      Make up wipes: another handy wipe to have available for accidents!

6.      Spray Deodorant: spray is not my favorite it terms of strength, but it’s nice to have with and anyone can use it.

7.      Tissues: you know, for the tears of joy that are sure to come at some point.

8.      Tide to Go: there’s bound to be a bridesmaid (or groomsman) to spill a little something on herself.

9.      Advil: stress headaches, not enough water, nerves…advil.

10.   Tums: again, nerves!

11.   Band-Aids: you never know…

12.   Chapstick: always handy, extra bonus if you buy the lipstick your make up artist puts on you or sells.

13.      Liquid IV: hydration is key on a wedding day. Nerves run high for the bride and groom and need to stay hydrated, but also the bridal party usually is consuming some beverages that don’t hydrate…

14.      Lotion: no one wants dry skin, especially if you can see your legs in the dresses. I’m the one that always wants lotion and never brings it – there’s bound to be someone like me in the party.

15.      Lint Roller: it comes in handy for the groomsmen and the men wearing jackets.

16.      Safety Pins: every wedding I’ve ever been to, someone needs a safety pin – don’t let your bride be the one without.

17.      Sewing Kit: the last thing we want is to have to SEW something on the wedding day, but it’s always a nice addition to the survival kit.

18.      Dry Shampoo: greasy hair or for the grease stained dress that the bridesmaid just spilled her sandwich on, dry shampoo!

19.      Eyelash Glue: maybe you have a make up artist putting lashes on, but eyelash glue also helps jewelry stay in place.

20.      Sunscreen: every esthetician will agree, you need sunscreen no matter what time of year it is.

For an added bonus top it off with something personal – a cup with her new name, a funny handkerchief to dry the tears or even just a note to wrap it all up. Leave the jewelry and fancy, more extensive items to the husband-to-be.. not that all these items are “cheap” by any means.

However, speaking of the groom, don’t forget him! Once the first look is over or the bridal party connects, the groom and groomsmen can, without a doubt, take advantage of this gift basket, but it’s not nearly as important as it is for the bridesmaids.

For my wedding, I bought my groom a gift, but nothing like this. I did put together a cute snack gift bag including all his favorite treats - such as sweet, salty, Liquid IV and gum. I kept it simple, but it did the trick for the men involved.
