Get to know your vendors: Your Florist.

Your vendors are your best friends. Use them because they are there to help you!

Have you booked your venue? Called the photographer? Purchased your dress? Rented the tuxes? Breath. Planning a wedding has many little steps, but your vendors are there to help you. They love what they do and when you choose them, they’re so excited to help bring your vision to life. That’s MY goal at the Wedding Nest. I’m here to help make sure all your ducks are in a row and you get everything crossed off the list before the big day.

It’s important to get to know your vendors and approach them with the correct questions. For example, when you pick out your flowers for your wedding or event, the florist is the best resource for all the questions you have, but also making sure all the pieces are taken care of. When connecting with your florist, there are three key factors to keep in mind. We sat down with JoEllen from The Country Garden Flowers & Gifts in Decorah to get the inside scoop on what we need to know as we plan our day.

Set Up An Appointment: The florist is busy! Whether it’s weddings, funerals, Valentine’s Day or birthdays – there’s always a need for flowers. If you call and book an appointment, they are able to give you their undivided attention. JoEllen at The Country Garden Flowers & Gifts in Decorah is more than willing to set up an appoint after hours, but wants to accommodate you and your schedule.

Pictures are Misleading: Unfortunately, color swatches aren’t always going to match perfectly between dresses and flowers. Pictures may give the wrong impression when it comes to your “inspiration.” Just remember, your florist is going to do everything in their power to make your vision come to life. It’s okay that your flowers aren’t the exact CMYK (color) as your bridesmaids dresses. Additionally, seasons do effect which flowers you are able to get! Ask questions. Be flexible, but have ideas!

Have Information Ready: When you meet with any vendor, you will want your list of ideas and  questions ready! For JoEllen at The Country Garden Flowers & Gifts, she requests a list of who will be getting flowers (i.e. bridesmaids, groomsman, personal attendants, ushers, parents, grandparents, etc.), where you would like flowers placed (head table, memory bouquet, church, reception hall), and of course, ideas of the bouquet and flowers you would like. As a florist, she understands you may not have every single detail ready and decided, but if you’re organized and flexible, she will be able to make your dreams a reality.

Wedding planning doesn’t have to be complicated. As we’ve mentioned, your vendors are there to make your day perfect - exactly like you envision. Be sure to set up a consultation with me at The Wedding Nest and we can go over all these questions and connect with the vendor that’s right for your big day.

XOXO
